Commercial
40 S School St | Office Center
Built in 1963, the 40 South School Street building was once the home to Kaneda’s Deli. Left to deteriorate and covered with graffiti, the three-story concrete structure was purchased in 2008. With an excellent location near downtown and solid structural bones, the buyers saw the potential in renovating this tired building.
Committed to renovating the building in a sustainable way, our design team worked hard to transform the derelict structure into a visually appealing contemporary commercial building. It remains an excellent example of the potential that lies in many of the existing buildings in our community and how reusing our local structures can be done in an attractive way.
The project received a LEED Silver Certification and incorporated a number of innovative “green” strategies and materials, including a photovoltaic array on the roof, storm water management, and a roof top garden.
